Subscription Box Review: Birchbox (April)

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription available for $10 a month. They offer a wide range of beauty products. This is NOT a vegan/ cruelty free beauty box. However, they do use brands that are vegan and/or cruelty free. I ONLY use those products.

MILK Makeup – Gel Brow Pilsner (Full Size, $18)
I absolutely loved this brow pencil. I normally have issues with my eyebrows and I’m conscious of their thinness. So, I’m excited to try something new. You don’t need a lot of product to get a full look. Just lightly swipe the pencil through your eyebrows and instantly you’ll have perfectly filled in brows. The pencil applies soft and is pigmented the right amount. It colors in the missing hair with lout making you look like a clown.

Our products are cruelty-free. We do not test our products on animals. Our line is over 60% vegan. We use the best possible ingredients, including luxurious natural oils, fruit and vegetable butters, and thoughtful formulations with minimal to no preservatives. If you have a product in mind, please email hello@milkmakeup.com and we can tell you if it is vegan. Milkmakeup.com

amika Touchable Hairspray (Full Size, $24)

I don’t have a relationship with hairspray. I stopped using hairspray months ago. But I was willing to try it out and see how it would work on my hair. It did what hairspray does, hold hair back. I didn’t find that it did anything special. I will say that the hairspray made my hair firm but also allowed for some movement. I’ve only used it once. I’ll try to use it more often and update the oat. I’m in the process of detoxifying my hair so I don’t like to use a lot of drying out products. I did like the fact that it didn’t flake.

Thank you for reaching out and for caring about these issues! amika never has and never will conduct animal testing. When we create a product, we test it on ourselves, our friends, anyone and everyone we can get our hands on! We test on people, never animals. As for being vegan, hydrolyzed keratin, derived from sheep’s wool, is utilized in our Triple Rx Shampoo. The Straight up Smoothing Balm contains silk amino acids which are extracted from the raw silk of the silk worm. Amika Haute Mess Gel uses honey extract which comes from honey bees. No other product uses any animal derived ingredients. -Email response from Amika

The Beauty Crop – PBJ Smoothie Stick – Guave Nice Da, (Full Size, $14.95)

Lip products are my thing. I live for lip balms and lipsticks. And when I get to try new lip products its literally the best thing ever. I enjoyed this lipstick. Here’s why: its softly pigmented, beautiful coloring, long lasting, and moisturizing. Easy right? You’d be surprised to find that lipsticks have tendency to be drying. Here’s what  I mean. It’s not just application. I’m talking about after you’ve had the lipstick on and you remove it. How are your lips left feeling? For me, drying lipsticks or lip balms are important. My lips are ultra sensitive and will become swollen for anything. After using this lipstick my lips felt great. It lasted for about 6 hours with no reapplication.

Our products are 100% cruelty-free. We do not test on animals, only on friends and family! –TheBeautyCrop.com

(MALIN + GOETZ) grapefruit face cleanser (Full Size, 32)  & vitamin e face moisturizer.

Oh the simplicity of beautifully crafted and formulated cleansers. I love cleansers. And although I have my favorite cleansers I’m always look for the next best thing. I don’t think this is it but my experience was pretty decent. I liked that it cleaned my face without making it feel dry and tight. I have oily skin and I’m always hoping to strip of my skin of all those ugly layers oily cells. It’s pretty gross. But I also don’t want my skin let without vital moisture. This didn’t dry me out at all. It smelled pretty good. It wasn’t overwhelming.

(MALIN+GOETZ) has never tested on animals and do not plan to ever do so. We do not use animals products, but we do use animal by-products. No animals are harmed or tested on in the production of our products. Here is a list of (MALIN+GOETZ)’s non-vegan products: Hair Pomade (has lanolin and beeswax), Vitamin B5 Body Moisturizer and Vitamin B5 Hand Treatment (have honey), and (MALIN+GOETZ) Candles (have beeswax). Peter Thomas Roth – Acne Clear Invisible Dots (Full Size, 30)

I did not use this product.

Peter Thomas Roth does not test any of our formulas or raw materials on animals but we believe in total transparency and will not claim that for the following reasons.

• We cannot be certain that a raw material supplier has not now or at some time in the past tested an ingredient on animals. We do not knowingly purchase ingredients that have been tested on animals and inquire before purchasing ingredients, but some staple ingredients that have been used in products for years may have been tested on animals in the past.

• We do sell our products in China and some other countries that still do test on animals; though it is our understanding that China is moving towards stopping this practice. We are not alone in selling to China; nearly every major cosmetic company sells there. Also to be noted, many major beauty retailers conduct business there including QVC and Sephora. Again, you must feel comfortable in your choices but we hope you will consider all information in doing so. (PeterThomasRoth.com)
